According to the sources, The committee will investigate the issue under the head of Raja Zafar ul Haq.
Earlier, PMN-L activists and supporters of arrested MNA, Anjum Aqeel Khan, on Friday night attacked a police team in front of the Shalimar police station in F-10/2 and managed to secure the release of the MNA after a clash with the police. Two cops were wounded in the attack.
SP (Sadar Zone) and SHO (Shalimar police station) have been arrested on the orders of Interior Minister Rehman Malik for criminal negligence. A case has been registered against the SP, SHO and 13 members of the raiding party, IGP Binyameen told our sources when contacted.
The police, however, have arrested seven attackers and registered a case under the Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA) against the MNA and his supporters, the IGP said while talking to newsmen during his visit to the Shalimar police station. He said other attackers were being hunted down.
The Islamabad Police, in a case (FIR-115/2010) registered a year ago under Sections 406, 468 PPC, on the complaint of one Shabahat Ali, arrested Anjum Aqeel when he was traveling on the Islamabad Expressway. He was put in a police vehicle and taken to the Shalimar police station.
When Anjum Aqeel’s driver informed the PML-N leadership about the incident, dozens of supporters of the MNA gathered in front of the Shalimar police station and started chanting slogans against the government and police, police sources said.
“As the police team led by SHO (Shalimar) Fiaz Tanoli reached the Shalimar police station, the angry activists attacked the police vehicles to get the MNA freed,†the police said, adding that the activists started aerial firing, forcing the SHO and other policemen to release the MNA. The activists put the MNA in a private Toyota Corolla car and sped away. Eyewitnesses said the SHO didn’t retaliate and released the MNA without any resistance. He called the force only when the MNA had left the scene. The police retaliated and started aerial firing to disperse the attackers.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik, taking a serious notice of the incident, asked the IGP Islamabad to arrest the SHO for his criminal negligence. He also asked him to detain the SP for questioning and submit the inquiry report within 24 hours.
The minister ordered the deputy commissioner, Islamabad, to conduct an inquiry to ascertain the facts. The police have launched a crackdown to arrest the absconding MNA. The IGP said the MNA would be arrested before dawn.
