Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt and one-day captain Shahid Afridi tried to persuade Miandad to take up the batting coach assignment.

Former Captain Miandad said that he had detailed meetings with both Butt and Afridi, but for the time being "I could not travel with the team to the West Indies."

Javed Miandad said that the tour of the West Indies is not a tough one and he would give some tips to the batsmen before they leave.

The Pakistan leaves for the West Indies next week for one Twenty20, five ODIs and two test matches.
