Sugar prices hit peak

Sugar prices have surged up to Rs.120 per kg in Punjab. Utility Store Corporation has decided to increase the prices of sugar from Rs.55 per kg to Rs.65.

In Karachi, sugar price crossed the Rs.100 mark. Federal Minister of Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim declared provinces are responsible for increase in sugar prices.

Shahbaz Sharif said that federal government had not import sugar at the right time as a result of which the prices of sugar are now out of reach of the common man.

Rising sugar prices showed no signs of respite even Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has sold another 10,000 metric tons of sugar at Rs 77,500 per tonne (excluding taxes) on the basis of highest responsive bid, against its 2nd tender of first tranche of 50,000 MT.
