He was replying to a question in a roundtable with Pakistani journalists when asked about progress towards discussing a possible nuclear cooperation deal between the United States and Pakistan, which Islamabad considers as a strategic goal.
On the question of Chinese-Pakistan nuclear cooperation, Holbrooke stated:
“We have asked for more information on the Chinese-Pakistan arrangement to see how they fit in with international regimes.â€
The Obama Administration’s special envoy for the region acknowledged in response to a question that Pakistan-India tensions affect the Afghan situation, where the U.S has had a high-stakes military and diplomatic engagement since September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York’s twin towers and Pentagon.
Washington, he said in reply to a question on Kashmir, is supportive of Pakistan and India resolving their tensions themselves but remarked it would not play the mediation role.
