With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Democratic challenger Jon Tester had 194,914 votes, or 48.9 percent, and incumbent Republican Senator Conrad Burns had 193,179 votes, or 48.5 percent.
Meanwhile the race for a Virginia Senate seat also had yet to be decided officially. Democratic challenger Jim Webb, a decorated former Marine and Secretary of the Navy maintained a lead of more than 8,000 votes with 99 percent of precincts reporting.
