Israel army accused of shooting unarmed suspects

The pair were among five Palestinians whose deaths were announced by the army following a raid in the village of Yamun near the northern West Bank town of Jenin last on Wednesday.
B'Tselem said witness testimony suggested the two suspects -- Salim Abu al-Haija and Mahmud Abu Hassan -- were not killed outright as reported by the army but had sought refuge in a neighbouring house where they were waiting for an ambulance to take them to hospital.
"The soldiers burst into the house and gathered the occupants in the courtyard and, witnesses say, they then entered the room where Salim Abu al-Haija was and gunfire was heard," the rights group said.
"Two of the occupants of the house then saw soldiers fire on Mahmud Abu Hassan, the second of the wounded suspects.
"It appears from the witness testimony that there are strong suspicions that the two Palestinians were executed by the soldiers as they lay wounded, unarmed and posing no danger," the group said, calling on the army to open an inquiry.
