Majority Pakistanis oppose Saddam Hussain death sentence: survey

The survey was conducted in the urban areas of the four provinces and it revealed that 72 percent of the over 1200 respondents, opposed the verdict of the Saddam Hussain.
"23 percent were in favour of the death sentence to the former Saddam Hussain who has been sentenced to death by an Iraqi court for holding responsible of mass killings during his 23 years tenure of dictatorial regime."
The survey showed that another five percent either did not or wished not to give an opinion on the matter.
The survey inquired whether the respondents believed if the decision of the Iraqi court is right or not. More than half (46 percent) of those interviewed stated that the decision is wrong, while 19 percent believed it is right and 25 percent of the respondents had no opinion.
Furthermore, the urban population remained equally divided as to whether Saddam Hussain's death sentence will be implemented or not; 44 percent of those believed that the sentence will be implemented whereas 47 percent believe it will not be done so and 9 percent gave no response.
Nearly 47 percent of the respondents believe that situations in Iraq will worsen after this decision as opposed to 17 who maintain that situations will improve while 32 percent think that this will have no effect on the current situation in Iraq and 4 percent either did not give response.
The survey was conducted by Gallup Pakistan and was based on sample of over 1200 respondents in the urban areas of all four provinces across Pakistan.
The sample was statistically selected to cover all age groups, income and educational level.
