Lahore’s Metrobus service faces a possible suspension from August 11 after VEDA, the company operating the service, issued a notice to the Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) warning that it would halt all operations if fuel was not provided immediately.

According to the notice, VEDA said its financial resources had been exhausted and it was no longer possible to continue Metrobus operations using its own funds.

The company said it would suspend all Lahore Metrobus operations from August 11 if the required fuel was not supplied.

VEDA said the decision was taken because a July 29 court order had not been implemented. It added that an agreement had been reached during a meeting on August 6 to resolve the issue, but the PMA had yet to make effective arrangements for fuel supplies.

The company has demanded that the PMA immediately provide fuel from its own resources to ensure uninterrupted operations.

According to VEDA, the PMA expressed its inability to take a decision without government instructions. Following this, the company set August 11 as the deadline for fuel provision.

The notice states that if fuel is not supplied, all Lahore Metrobus operations will be suspended from August 11 and that the financial, legal and operational consequences of the suspension will be borne by the PMA.

VEDA maintained that any suspension of operations would not be due to the company’s fault, default or lack of interest in continuing the service.

The company also reserved all its contractual, legal and arbitration rights in the matter.
