Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday claimed it launched ballistic missile strikes on a US airbase in Jordan and another military facility in Kuwait, alleging it destroyed American fighter jets, helicopters and military infrastructure in retaliation for US attacks on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

According to the IRGC, its Aerospace Force fired multiple ballistic missiles at the US-operated Al Azraq Air Base in Jordan, targeting an area used for the parking, maintenance and servicing of F-35 fighter aircraft.

The IRGC claimed the strike destroyed three F-35 fighter jets and severely damaged three others. It also said that several US military officers, technical personnel and aircraft maintenance staff were killed in the attack.

The Iranian military said the operation was carried out in response to US missile strikes earlier on Thursday on Qeshm Island, where Iranian authorities said a residential house was hit, killing three members of the same family — a husband, wife and their two-year-old child. Two other children, aged seven and nine, were reportedly injured and taken to hospital.

In a separate statement carried by Iran’s Fars News Agency, the IRGC claimed it also targeted the US-operated Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait as part of “Operation Nasr 2”.

According to the report, two drone hangars, an aircraft fuel storage facility and several military helicopters were destroyed during the strike.

The IRGC accused the United States of destabilising the Middle East and vowed to continue attacks until American forces withdraw from the region.

The claims could not be independently verified. Reuters reported that US officials did not immediately comment on the alleged strikes, while there was no immediate official response from Jordan or Kuwait regarding the reported attacks.

Al Azraq Air Base hosts the US Air Force’s 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing and has long served as a key American military facility in the region. Iran had also claimed to have targeted the base earlier this month.

The latest exchange follows a sharp escalation in direct military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, raising fears of further instability across the Middle East.
