Veteran actor and musician Khalid Nizami passed away in Karachi after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed on Wednesday.

According to his family, Nizami had been unwell for some time.

His funeral prayers will be offered after Zuhr prayers on Thursday at Usmania Mosque, Buffer Zone 15-B, Karachi Central.

Born in 1947, Nizami received his early education at Karachi Grammar School before earning a bachelor’s degree from Islamia College Karachi.

Khalid Nizami was widely regarded as one of the most celebrated actors and comedians, who was known for his versatility and natural comic timing.

Nizami won the hearts of millions of viewers not only in Pakistan but also in India with outstanding performances in hugely popular PTV dramas such as Uncle Urfi (1972), Shehzori (1974) and Unkahi (1982).

He also appeared in numerous other productions, including Haseena Moin’s celebrated play Eid Ka Jora.

In addition to his television career, Nizami also appeared in films, including director Nazarul Islam’s Haqeeqat (1974), Pehchan (1975) and the Punjabi film Aj Diyan Kuriyan (1977).
