Punjab govt announces compensation for victims of roof collapse tragedy

The Punjab government on Wednesday announced a special compensation package for the families of children killed and those injured in the tragic roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area.

According to the provincial government, financial assistance will be disbursed promptly and transparently to provide immediate relief to the affected families.

The compensation package was approved on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after the deadly incident that claimed the lives of 14 children and left others injured.

Punjab Chief Minister’s Adviser Zeeshan Malik said the families of the deceased children would receive Rs2 million each, while those injured in the incident would be provided Rs500,000 each in financial assistance.

“The Punjab government shares the grief of the affected families and stands in complete solidarity with them during this difficult time,” Malik said, adding that relief measures had been initiated immediately after the incident.

He said the government would ensure the swift and transparent disbursement of compensation so that affected families receive timely financial support.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, the chief minister’s adviser extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

Officials said the process of distributing the compensation package would be completed soon, while the government continued to monitor the situation and take all possible measures to support the victims and their families.
