Thunderstorms, heavy rain expected in upper parts of country from June 16-20

A new spell of thunderstorms and rain is expected in the upper parts of Pakistan from June 16 to 20, the Meteorological Department said, warning of heavy rainfall, hailstorms and possible urban flooding in some areas.

According to the department, a western weather system will enter the upper parts of the country on June 16 and is likely to remain intermittently active until June 20.

During this period, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad and various districts of Punjab are expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall and hail are also likely at isolated locations.

The department said rain is also forecast in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while windstorms and thunderstorms are expected in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northeastern Balochistan.

In Sindh, rain and dust-laden winds are expected between June 16 and 20.

The Meteorological Department advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.
