According to Inspector-General of Punjab Police Rao Abdul Karim, more than 124,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed to secure over 47,000 religious gatherings (majalis) and processions during the first 10 days of Muharram.
Continuous monitoring will be carried out through Safe City cameras, while special security arrangements will be put in place at sensitive locations.
Individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule will also be closely monitored.
The IG Punjab said a ban on pillion riding will be enforced on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, while control rooms in all districts will remain operational 24 hours a day.
He urged religious scholars and community leaders to help ensure peace and harmony during Muharram, adding that any attempt to disturb public order would be foiled through inter-sectarian cooperation and coordinated efforts.
