The office responsible for preserving and publishing the works of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has announced a schedule for farewell, funeral and burial ceremonies following his martyrdom, according to an official statement.
The statement said farewell ceremonies will be held at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla on July 4 and 5, corresponding to the 19th and 20th days of Muharram.
A funeral procession is scheduled in Tehran on July 6, followed by another procession in Qom on July 7.
The final burial ceremony will take place in Mashhad on July 9. He will be laid to rest at the shrine of Imam Reza, the statement said.
Organisers invited “all noble and dear people, the free people of the world, followers of the school of Islam, and those interested in Iran” to attend the ceremonies and pay their respects.
The statement added that preparations were being coordinated with government bodies and public groups, saying the ceremonies would be largely organised by the public as “the true owners of the mourning,” and that a high level of participation is expected.
