Sharjeel Memon announces Karachi infrastructure push
1 min readSindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said Bhutto Highway would be opened to the public on May 23 as the provincial government pushes ahead with major infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in Karachi.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi, Memon said the biggest issue on University Road was mixed traffic, while the BRT project had entered its second phase.
He said a new road was also being constructed from Karachi Port to Jam Sadiq in Korangi to improve connectivity and traffic flow in the city.
“Karachi is the busiest city in Pakistan and traffic problems are being resolved,” He said, adding that modern facilities were being provided to residents and that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was addressing public issues on a priority basis.
Memon said the government’s current focus was on providing relief to the people rather than on elections.
Commenting on narcotics-related issues, he described the drug challenge as “very dangerous” and said authorities had failed to take the matter seriously in the past.
“There are drug problems all over the world, and it is the government’s responsibility to eliminate the drug network,” he said.
He added that several names had surfaced in connection with drug-related cases but declined to disclose them at this stage.
