Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the active performance of the National Tariff Commission was essential to boosting domestic industry and investment following its institutional restructuring.

Chairing a review meeting on reform measures for the commission, the prime minister said it must ensure convenience for investors and industrialists and take special steps to protect them from legal and other complications.

He called for a review of global best practices to align the commission’s restructuring and performance with international standards.

During the meeting, the chairman of the National Tariff Commission briefed participants on legal, administrative and financial reforms.

PM also directed the commission to adopt innovation through information technology, artificial intelligence and other modern methods, and to improve efficiency by simplifying legal complexities in the Appellate Tribunal.

He instructed that legal and administrative issues be resolved through a comprehensive approach aimed at promoting industry, trade and investment, and emphasised the need for full digitisation of the commission’s activities to ensure transparency and quality.

Delays in cases at the National Tariff Commission were “not tolerable under any circumstances,” he said.
