The head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organisation, Brigadier General Seyed Majid Khademi, has been killed in an air strike on Tehran, according to Iranian officials.

In a statement issued on Monday, the IRGC said Khademi was killed in what it described as a “criminal and terrorist attack” carried out by the United States and Israel in the early hours of the day.

The IRGC paid tribute to Khademi, highlighting his long service and role in Iran’s intelligence and security operations.

The statement said he had played a significant part in countering foreign threats and safeguarding national security over several decades.

Later, Israel acknowledged responsibility for the strike.

Israel Katz said he had been briefed on the operation during an assessment with military chief Eyal Zamir.
