Four Adiala jail officials suspended over corruption, negligence charges
1 min readAuthorities have suspended four officials of Adiala Jail, including an assistant superintendent, for 90 days over allegations of negligence and corruption, officials said.
The suspended staff have been issued show-cause notices and directed to submit their responses within one week.
According to sources, those suspended include Assistant Superintendent Imran Shehzad, along with warders Sohail Ahmed, Shafqat Naveed, and Athar Saeed. The action followed an inspection by the Directorate General Monitoring of the Home Department, during which cash was recovered from personnel.
During a visit to the waiting area, officials reportedly recovered Rs18,220 from warder Sohail Ahmed’s socks. The amount is suspected to have been collected illegally from prison visitors. Another warder, Shafqat Naveed, was suspended for failing to prevent unlawful activities.
Assistant Superintendent Imran Shehzad was also suspended for not stopping alleged misconduct by his subordinates while serving as in charge.
Sources said that if the officials fail to provide satisfactory explanations, they could face penalties under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEDA) Act, including fines or dismissal from service.
All suspended employees have been summoned in their personal capacity on March 25 to present their explanations regarding the charges.
The notice stated that the action was taken following complaints related to corruption and negligence in official duties.
