Imran Khan receives second eye injection at PIMS
2 min readFormer prime minister Imran Khan underwent a scheduled follow-up examination related to his ongoing eye treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in the early hours of Tuesday.
Imran Khan was shifted from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for the purpose, sources said.
According to the sources, the 74-year-old founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) received the second dose of an anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) intravitreal injection as part of his prescribed treatment plan.
The procedure was carried out under the supervision of consultant ophthalmologists and a vitreoretinal surgeon from PIMS and Shifa International Hospital.
Before the procedure, doctors conducted a thorough medical check-up on the former prime minister.
A consultant cardiologist also examined him and performed an echocardiogram and an electrocardiogram (ECG).
Both tests came back normal, and doctors expressed satisfaction with his condition.
Officials confirmed that Khan’s vital signs remained stable before, during, and after the procedure.
The injection was administered in the operation theatre under a predetermined protocol after obtaining the patient’s consent, the sources said.
The process was completed with the assistance of microscopy and under the close supervision of expert surgeons.
After receiving the second dose, Imran Khan was allowed to return with detailed medical instructions, prescribed medication, and advice for his next follow-up visit.
Hospital officials said his eye treatment will continue under the supervision of specialists, in line with the recommended medical plan.
Earlier, the PTI founder was shifted to the PIMS Hospital from Adiala Jail under heightened security.
He was first taken to the PIMS Hospital for the treatment of his eye on the night between January 24 and 25.
The doctors had prescribed three injections for his eye care.
The former prime minister stayed at the hospital for almost an hour during the second procedure.
During his stay, his heart condition was also checked. Tests showed normal cardiac function, according to the sources.
The former prime minister is expected to receive the third injection on March 23.
