Rajanpur, katcha areas cleared of criminals, says Maryam Nawaz
2 min readPunjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Saturday that the Rajanpur and katcha areas have been 100% cleared of bandits and other anti-social elements following a successful security operation in the area.
Speaking at a high-level meeting convened to review the operation, she said the areas, once dominated by criminal gangs, are now under the full authority of the state.
“A state within a state had virtually been set up by bandits in the katcha areas,” Maryam Nawaz said.
“Criminals had created an atmosphere of fear by abducting people through honey traps and carrying out serious crimes. Today, the rule of law has been restored, and the region has transformed from a symbol of fear into an area governed by law,” she added.
According to the chief minister, over 500 criminals surrendered during the operation, which involved extensive use of modern surveillance, drones, and advanced weaponry to monitor the movement of suspects.
Highlighting the important role played by the army in assisting the police, Maryam Nawaz noted that there were no casualties during the operation.
The chief minister also appreciated the cooperation extended by the Sindh government and the Sindh police, describing their support as instrumental to the operation’s success.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that there would be no leniency for those who challenge the state’s authority, and that public safety would remain the top priority of her government.
Claiming that the security situation has improved, she noted that no honey-trap abductions had been reported in the last 45 days.
The chief minister announced that development projects will be launched in the katcha areas, including road construction, the Green Bus service, and other essential facilities.
“We are committed to providing the residents of the katcha areas with basic amenities and a comprehensive development package to ensure long-term peace and stability,” she said.
