Former Islamabad High Court judge Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri has approached the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC), challenging his removal from office and seeking the annulment of the Islamabad High Court’s verdict.

In his petition, the former judge argued that he was removed without fulfilling legal requirements and claimed that due process was not followed. He requested the court to declare the IHC decision null and void.

He was de-notified as a judge on December 18, 2025, after the Islamabad High Court ruled that he was ineligible to hold judicial office due to an invalid law degree.

A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan, heard the case concerning the authenticity of his LLB degree. The court concluded that the degree was not valid at the time of his appointment, rendering his elevation illegal.

During the proceedings, the Registrar of Karachi University presented original degree records, while former Justice Jahangiri did not appear in person. His counsel, Barrister Salahuddin, requested the court to first take up three pending petitions filed by his client.

Advocate Mian Dawood argued that even the enrollment forms submitted by Justice Jahangiri were allegedly bogus and said he failed to produce Part I and Part II marksheets.

Following the hearing, the court ordered his de-notification and declared him unfit to hold judicial office.
