China to further strengthen relations with Islamic countries
2 min readSecretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hussein Ibrahim Taha met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Monday, according to Chinese state media.
On this occasion, Wang Yi said that the OIC is the largest intergovernmental organisation in the Islamic world, and China has always attached strategic importance to relations with Islamic countries and the OIC.
China has expressed its determination to further strengthen relations with Islamic countries and work together to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
The Chinese Foreign Minister said that China appreciates the strong support of Islamic countries and the OIC for China on Xinjiang-related issues and the Taiwan issue.
He added that China opposes leading the world back to the law of the jungle and is ready to work with Islamic countries to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
The Chinese Foreign Minister said that China and OIC member states should focus on cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
They also need to work together to resolve regional disputes politically and maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
Wang Yi also stressed that China and the OIC should respect the role of the United Nations and the basic principles of international relations, and play a role in establishing a fair global governance system.
OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha said that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation supports the “One China” principle and opposes external interference in China’s internal affairs.
He said that the development projects in Xinjiang are welcome. The OIC is willing to work with China to enhance partnership and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Hussein Ibrahim Taha appreciated China’s efforts for a comprehensive, lasting and just solution to the Palestinian issue and expressed hope that China will continue to play a more effective role in this regard in the future.
