The Academy Awards will add a new category for Casting at the 2026 ceremony, marking the first addition to the Oscars in more than two decades.

On Thursday, actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman announced the first-ever nominees for this category, bringing the total number of competitive Oscars to 24.

The nominees are:

• Nina Gold for Hamnet

• Jennifer Venditti for Marty Supreme

• Cassandra Kulukundis for One Battle After Another

• Gabriel Domingues for The Secret Agent

• Francine Maisler for Sinners

The Academy had announced the creation of the award in February 2024.

Casting was chosen by the Academy’s Casting Directors Branch, which was established in 2013 and now has nearly 160 members.

This is the first new category since Best Animated Feature Film was introduced in 2001.

Previous additions include makeup and hairstyling in 1982. A new category for stunt design is scheduled to debut in 2028.
