The Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on the use of mobile phones in government hospitals during duty hours, barring staff below grade 18 from using phones while on duty.

The Department of Specialised Healthcare issued a formal notification stating that, despite earlier instructions, mobile phone usage continued in hospitals, affecting patient care and official work.

The department said the ban has now been strictly enforced.

According to the notification, only officers of grade 18 and above will be allowed to use mobile phones, and that too only in designated administrative areas.

If the ban is not implemented effectively, CCTV cameras will be installed in hospitals.

The department has also directed that body cameras be provided to pharmacy staff.

Recordings from these body cameras will be preserved for 30 days and monitored through a central control room.

Medical superintendents of hospitals have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the ban.
