National Assembly erupts in laughter as Speaker waves lost Rs5,000 notes
A humorous incident unfolded in the National Assembly on Monday when Speaker Ayaz Sadiq discovered ten Rs5,000 notes on the floor and waved them in the air, asking members to claim ownership.
“Whose money is this? Whoever it belongs to, please raise your hand,” the speaker said, prompting not one or two, but 12 members to raise their hands, surprising the assembly.
The cash, found before opposition members entered the chamber, briefly became the centre of attention.
It was later confirmed that the notes belonged to PTI MNA Muhammad Iqbal Afridi, who retrieved them after the mix-up.
The speaker’s quip — “There are ten notes and twelve owners” — triggered laughter across the House, providing a lighthearted interlude amid the session’s proceedings.
For a few minutes, the focus shifted from the legislative agenda to the comic episode, with lawmakers joining in the banter and sharing smiles over the unexpected turn of events.
