Katseye, a girl group from Los Angeles, has talked about the bad side of getting more famous. Since their debut last year, they have had a lot of death threats online.

The group consists of six members, Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae, who come from countries including the Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States.

They officially entered the music scene in June 2024.

In an interview with BBC News, the members described how the threats, some of which have extended to their families, have taken a heavy emotional toll.

Lara Raj explained, “I try to tell myself it doesn’t matter, but when thousands of people send death threats, it’s jarring. Even if nothing happens, it’s still a lot to carry.”

Raj, a 20-year-old US citizen of Tamil Indian heritage, also said she had been subjected to racist attacks and was falsely reported to ICE for allegedly working and living in the US without authorisation.

To cope, Raj deleted her X account to avoid seeing the negative messages. She said, “I realised I am not the audience for other people’s opinions.”

She also spoke about sexist remarks, noting, “People see us as women to rank, judging our looks, singing, dancing, and then adding it up to give a score.”

Bandmate Manon Bannerman characterised the experience as mentally exhausting, stating, “It feels extremely frightening for the mind.”

In spite of these difficulties, Katseye’s career keeps progressing. The ensemble was recently nominated for Best New Artist at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

Katseye launched their career with the inaugural single in 2024, succeeded by their hit song Touch.

Later that year, they launched their debut EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong).

In April 2025, they launched Gnarly, the primary single from their second EP, Beautiful Chaos.
