Over 100 lives lost as night club roof collapses
A tragic incident occurred in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where a roof collapse at a nightclub has led to the deaths of at least 100 individuals and injured more than 150 others.
Among the deceased is former Major League Baseball pitcher Octavio Dotel, who was 51 years old and passed away en route to the hospital after being rescued from the rubble.
The collapse happened during a concert by popular merengue artist Rubby Pérez at the Jet Set nightclub in the early hours of Tuesday.
Many people were inside the venue at the time, and around 400 rescue workers have been tirelessly searching the debris for survivors, with concerns that the number of casualties may rise.
The director of the Emergency Operations Centre, Juan Manuel Méndez, expressed hope that some of those trapped under the collapsed structure might still be alive.
The Jet Set nightclub is known for hosting lively dance music events, attracting various politicians, athletes, and celebrities.
In addition to Dotel, another notable victim was Nelsy Cruz, the governor of Monte Cristi province, who was also present at the event. Nelsy Cruz has familial ties to former baseball player Nelson Cruz, a seven-time All-Star.

A man in a recording mentioned that something fell from the ceiling moments before the incident occurred.
Local authorities and President Luis Abinader have extended their condolences to the families affected by this heartbreaking event.
