Maulana Hamid Ul Haq Haqqani, who was killed in a suicide blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Nowshera on February 28, was a Pakistani politician and Islamic scholar.

He was also a member of the 12th National Assembly of Pakistan from November 16, 2002, to October 2, 2007, according to records.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, graduating in 1988.

Haqqani, 57, was the eldest son of Maulana Samiul Haq, a renowned Pakistani religious scholar and founder of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami, as well as the vice-principal of Darul Uloom Haqania in Akora Khattak, Nowshehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Following the assassination of his father, Samiul Haq, he took over as the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-S.

In 2018, Maulana Samiul Haq was assassinated by unidentified assailants in Pakistan.

He also served as the chairman of the Difa-e-Pakistan Council and is the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Darululoom e Haqqania in Akora Khattak.

In an interview with Daily Times in 2021, he stated that “Pakistan still needs hard work to stabilize the situation overall although it has done a lot it still needs a long-term strategy to curb the resurgence of terrorist militia groups, we need intelligence-based policies, strong anti-terrorism legal framework, and address the grievances of unprivileged people.”
