The sugar price has been increased by Rs10 per kilogramme in Karachi ahead of the Ramazan, insiders said on Tuesday.

In just two weeks, the wholesale price has climbed to Rs146 per kilogram while the retail price has soared to Rs150 per kilogramme.

Earlier, Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, stated that sugar prices would not be permitted to increase during Ramazan.

In a meeting in Islamabad on Friday to assess sugar pricing, Hussain emphasized the government’s responsibility to provide relief to consumers during the holy month.

He noted that sugar millers have been given a week to consult on pricing, with final rates expected to be announced on Thursday.
