Convoy carrying food, medical items to KP’s Parachinar comes under attack

Hangu district administration confirms attack
Firing on vehicles going to Parachinar in Lower Kurram Bagan - Breaking - Aaj News

Vehicles loaded with relief items travelling towards Kurram’s Parachinar came under attack on Thursday when unidentified men opened fire at them.

A convoy consisting of thirty-five vehicles was en route to Parachinar when the incident occurred.

The Hangu district administration confirmed the occurrence of the event to Aaj News when our correspondent reached out to it for a comment.

“Following the attack in Bagan, the administration is active in controlling the situation,” Hangu Assistant Commissioner Saeed Manan said and added that the convoy had departed from Thall for Parachinar and other areas.

Sources told Aaj News that both light and heavy firearms were used in the assault. Upon receiving reports of the attack, security forces cordoned off the area.

Last year, gunfire was directed at the vehicle of Kohat Deputy Commissioner Javed Allah Mehsud, also in Bagan, resulting in serious injuries to the DC, along with FC and police personnel. The incident involving Mehsud occurred while he was on-site to restore roads for a relief supplies convoy.

According to police, several vehicles have safely returned to Chapri following the attack and helicopter flights were ongoing in the area.

The Kurram DPO stated that security forces and police “responded promptly” to the terrorists’ gunfire, and exchanges of fire between the forces and unidentified assailants continued. There have been no confirmed reports of casualties or property damage; however, gunship helicopters “targeted the unidentified militants.”

The DPO confirmed that half of the convoy had been sent back to Tall, emphasising that no militants would be spared.
