The new DJI Flip will allow you to record vlogs with a drone
DJI, despite potential ongoing sanctions and a possible drone ban in the US, continues to innovate, launching its latest product: the DJI Flip. This sub-249g drone is designed specifically for vloggers and novice aerial videographers, offering a user-friendly experience with or without a controller.
The Flip boasts impressive features for its sub-$500 price point. Its 48MP camera, equipped with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, captures high-resolution photos and 4K video at up to 100fps. The camera also supports 10-bit D-Log M color mode, allowing for greater flexibility in post-production. The inclusion of Dual Native ISO Fusion, an f/1.7 aperture, and 2.4μm 4-in-1 pixels enables 4x HDR imaging. Furthermore, the 4:3 aspect ratio CMOS sensor is optimized for social media, providing vertical crops at 2.7k resolution without any loss of quality.
DJI highlights the Flip’s ease of use and safety features. Its foldable, full-coverage propeller guards enhance safety, and intelligent flight modes simplify operation. These modes include:
- MasterShots: Automates complex camera movements, creating cinematic footage with automatic editing and effects.
- Hyperlapse: Offers various options (Free, Circle, Course Lock, Waypoint) for capturing stunning time-lapse footage.
- FocusTrack: Provides ActiveTrack 4.0, Spotlight 2.0, and Point of Interest 3.0 for subject tracking.
- Panorama: Supports various panoramic photo modes (180°, Wide Angle, Vertical, Sphere).
Ferdinand Wolf, DJI’s Product Experience Director, stated that the Flip builds on the success of previous consumer drones, combining the simplicity of the DJI Neo with the photographic capabilities of the DJI Mini. He emphasized the drone’s accessibility for users of all skill levels.
The DJI Flip is available now, starting at $439. Various pre-configured packages are also available on DJI’s website. This new drone represents a significant step towards making high-quality aerial videography more accessible to a wider audience.
