Apple’s iOS 19 to support all iPhones compatible with iOS 18: Report
According to a recent report, Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 will be compatible with all iPhone models capable of running the current iOS 18.
The leak has provided a complete list of devices that will support the new operating system:
- iPhone SE (2nd & 3rd gen)
- iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max
Notably, the oldest iPhone models that will receive iOS 19 support are the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, which were launched in 2018. While many devices will be compatible, not all will have access to every new feature.
Reports suggested that Apple may reserve certain iOS 19 features exclusively for newer models, prompting users with older devices to consider upgrades for full functionality.
This marked the second consecutive year that Apple has maintained support for all existing iPhone models with its major iOS release. Last year, iOS 17 supported all devices compatible with iOS 16, while iOS 17 itself removed support for the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X.
In addition to iPhones, the report also outlines the iPads that will support iPadOS 19:
- iPad Mini (5, 6, and 7)
- iPad (8th, 9th, and 10th generation)
- iPad Air (2019, 2020, M1 2022, and M2 2024)
- iPad Pro (2018, 2020, M1 2021, M2 2022, and M4 2024)
However, the A10-powered iPad 7 and certain older iPad Pro models will not be compatible with iPadOS 19 due to performance limitations.
Apple is expected to preview iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 at its annual WWDC in June 2025. The updates will be available in developer beta immediately following the preview, with a public release anticipated in September.
