A severe cold wave has enveloped the country, leaving citizens shivering in frigid temperatures. The upper regions are blanketed in snow, creating breathtaking landscapes in areas such as Naran, Kaghan, Shogran, Malam Jabba, Kalam, and Mahodand. Gilgit-Baltistan is also experiencing intense cold, resulting in frozen waterfalls and rivers.

Meanwhile, Karachi has recorded a temperature drop to 12 degrees Celsius, while Lahore welcomed December with early morning rain.

The recent snowfall in northern areas has added to the charm of the mountains in Naran, Kaghan, and Shogran, attracting a significant influx of tourists eager to enjoy the winter scenery.

Tourist destinations in Swat, including Malam Jabba, Kalam, and Mahodand, have also become picturesque winter wonderlands due to the snowfall.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, all districts are experiencing severe cold, with areas like Skardu, Kharmang, Shigar, and Ganche witnessing frozen waterfalls and streams.

The Ghizar district’s Gupis region is also facing extreme cold, where lakes appear as icy fields and streams begin to freeze.

According to the Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures across various regions have been recorded as follows: Leh at -13 degrees Celsius, Skardu at -11, Gupis at -9, and Gilgit and Dir at -8. Astor recorded -7, while Qalat and Bagrot saw -6. Quetta, Ziarat, and Chitral registered temperatures of -5 degrees Celsius.

In Lahore, the month of December started with rain, while Karachi experienced temperatures dropping into single digits over the last two days.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department reports that Karachi’s weather is currently cold and dry, with minimum temperatures expected to range from 9 to 11 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures reaching up to 26 degrees Celsius. The current temperature in the city stands at 13 degrees Celsius.
