Kia India unveils new model ‘Syros’ to target mass market
Kia India has introduced its latest model, the Syros, in a move to capture a larger share of the internal combustion engine (ICE) market. The sub-4-metre vehicle is designed to fit between the popular Sonet and Seltos models.
The Syros will be available in four standard trims and two optional trims, named HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, and HTX+, HTX+(O).
While the company has yet to disclose pricing details, estimates suggest that the base model may start at under 900,000 Indian rupees, with the top variant potentially reaching 1.7 million Indian rupees (all ex-showroom).
Interested customers can begin pre-booking on January 3, 2025, with deliveries expected to commence in early February 2025.
The new Kia Syros comes equipped with two engine choices, mirroring those found in the Sonet. It features a 1.0-litre T-GDi petrol engine that delivers a peak power of 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. Additionally, there is a 1.5-litre CRDi VGT diesel engine producing 114 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque.
Such engines are paired with various transmission options, including a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for petrol, and both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission for diesel variants.
The Syros boasts an array of first-in-segment features, including Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with over 15 autonomous safety features, a multi-functional steering wheel inspired by the EV6, wireless charging capabilities, ventilated seats with sliding and reclining functions, multiple charging sockets, a panoramic sunroof, and a robust infotainment system that supports wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
In terms of design, the Syros showcases a striking road presence, drawing inspiration from its larger sibling, the Carens. It features Kia’s signature starmap LED headlights, integrated daytime running lights (DRLs), and a distinctive digital tiger face grille that enhances its visual appeal.
