Argentina has officially unveiled its first F-16 fighter jet, an F-16B Block 10 two-seater, at the VI Air Brigade in Tandil.

The aircraft was transported in disassembled form via two K/C-130H aircraft and was presented to Defense Minister Luis Petri and other military officials.

Designated for ground instruction at a new training center under construction, this F-16 will play a crucial role in preparing new pilots and technical crews, helping them familiarize themselves with advanced maintenance processes and operational procedures.

Although the jet is currently not airworthy, it was displayed alongside its components, including the engine and wings.

The Ministry of Defense highlighted the extensive training capabilities that the F-16B offers, including inspections, weapon system configurations, engine replacements, and avionics system training.

This initiative aims to enhance the technical skills of the Argentine Air Force personnel and align them with modern operational standards.

Prior to its arrival in Argentina, the F-16B underwent significant refurbishment and repainting at Aalborg Air Base in Denmark.

Personnel from the Royal Danish Air Force will assist in its assembly for an official launch planned in the coming weeks.

Minister Petri emphasized the importance of modernizing the military to tackle new challenges, including border security and emerging threats like terrorism and cyberattacks.

The acquisition includes a mix of single-seat and two-seat aircraft, advanced weaponry, spare parts, and flight simulators, with a five-year guarantee for spare parts and comprehensive training for pilots and technicians.

This acquisition marks a significant upgrade from Argentina’s aging Mirage aircraft, which have been retired after over 40 years of service.
