The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that most cities in the country are expected to experience severe cold today. Snowfall is predicted in the mountains, and there will be partially cloudy skies.

The frigid winds from Balochistan have further chilled the weather in Karachi.

The northern areas of the country are under the grip of intense cold, with the mountains covered in a white blanket of snow. Over the last 24 hours, the lowest temperatures recorded were minus 11 degrees Celsius in Skardu and Astor, while Hunza recorded -6 degrees Celsius.

Additionally, the temperatures in other regions are as follows: Gilgit, Bagrot, and Qalat had minus 5 degrees Celsius; Quetta recorded minus 2 degrees Celsius; Islamabad saw 1 degree Celsius; Peshawar and Muzaffarabad both had 2 degrees Celsius; Multan, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, and Bannu recorded 5 degrees Celsius; and Lahore, Nawabshah, and Jammu had 7 degrees Celsius.

Due to the cold, people have been confined to their homes. The cold winds from Balochistan have also made Karachi’s weather chillier, with nighttime temperatures recorded at 12 degrees Celsius.

The federal capital, Islamabad, is also experiencing severe cold. According to the Meteorological Department, this cold wave is expected to last for the next 2 to 4 days.

The department stated that the weather in the twin cities and most areas of the country will remain extremely cold and dry today, with mountainous regions expected to be particularly frigid.

In the morning hours, light fog is anticipated in some areas of northeastern Punjab and upper Sindh, while light rain and snowfall are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Kurram.
