Indian police raids home and office of late Syed Ali Geelani
Indian police conducted raids on the home and office of the late Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani and the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) office, according to the Kashmir Media Service (KMS).
The raids resulted in the seizure of Geelani’s books and important documents.
The APHC strongly condemned the raids, calling them a blatant violation of human rights. KMS reports indicate that this is part of a larger pattern of actions by Indian authorities.
Over the past year, more than 100 political and civil leaders have had their homes raided. During these raids, documents and electronic devices are commonly confiscated.
Furthermore, KMS reports that over 80 offices of social organizations have been raided as part of an investigation into funding sources. The raids are seen by many as an attempt to suppress dissent and political opposition in the region.
