The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to ban bringing commercial quantities of goods from abroad, sources said. But individuals would still be allowed to bring mobile phones for personal use.

Any items valued at over $1,200 would be considered commercial trade. All mobile phones except for one would be confiscated. Even if extra items were declared with duty, taxes, and penalties paid, they would not be cleared.

Such regulations are designed to prevent the importation of goods for commercial purposes disguised as personal luggage.

Sources added that the FBR has prepared amendments to the Baggage Rules 2006 and seeking input from stakeholders. A seven-day period has been allocated for feedback, with any late submissions being ignored.

Stakeholders were invited to submit recommendations regarding the amendments within seven days; proposals received after the stipulated period would not be accepted.

If no significant alterations are made during the period, the proposed regulations would be enacted through a gazette notification.

Travellers bringing items valued more than above mentioned bracket would be required to pay the relevant duties, taxes, and penalties to clear them.
