Mastung bombing death toll rises to nine as FIR lodged
The death toll from a powerful bomb explosion near a police van in Balochistan’s Mastung has increased to nine. The dead include five schoolchildren and a policeman.
The blast, which occurred during the morning hours on Friday also left at least thirty others injured.
On Saturday, authorities registered an FIR against unidentified accused under sections of murder and attempted murder.
Five children and a policeman died at the scene, while three additional victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving care.
The police mobile unit was completely destroyed in the blast, which also damaged several nearby vehicles and rickshaws.
In response to this tragedy, Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, expressing their sorrow over the loss of life and extending condolences to the grieving families.
They emphasized the need for a united front against terrorism, with Gilani stating, “The terrorists are the enemies of humanity. The whole nation stands united to support security forces and law enforcement agencies.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for swift action to apprehend those responsible for the attack and directed that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment.
In the aftermath, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti spoke out against the targeting of innocent children, reiterating the government’s commitment to fighting terrorism. He vowed that such cowardly acts would not deter efforts to promote education and development in the region.

Bugti also highlighted ongoing educational initiatives, including the establishment of a hi-tech lab and the distribution of laptops to students, aimed at empowering the youth of Balochistan. He urged the community to reject terrorism and foster a culture of education and awareness among the youth.
The attack has drawn national attention, underscoring the urgent need for concerted efforts to combat violence and promote stability in the region.
