PTI decides to join Judicial Commission

Final names will be announced after Imran Khan's approval

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially decided to join the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, agreeing to nominate members from both houses of parliament.

An announcement was made following a special meeting of the PTI’s political committee. The meeting included a briefing on the opposition’s nomination of two members to the commission and the Speaker of the National Assembly’s letter regarding the matter.

The briefing detailed the expanded responsibilities of the 13-member Judicial Commission. These responsibilities now include: appointing judges to the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Federal Shariat Court; overseeing the performance of High Court judges and compiling annual performance reports; proposing suitable candidates for High Court judges; and establishing benches in the High Court and Supreme Court.

A third of the commission’s members can convene a meeting, and decisions will be made by a simple majority.

According to Clause D, the absence of a member will not affect the validity of the commission’s decisions. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan will be a long-term commission, and the participation of two opposition members will play a crucial role in its decision-making process.

The political committee unanimously approved the proposal to join the Judicial Commission of Pakistan. This decision will be presented to the core committee for ratification and then to party chairman Imran Khan for final approval.

The meeting also reaffirmed the party’s firm stance on the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The two proposed names for the opposition’s representation on the commission will be officially announced after receiving final approval from Imran Khan.
