Aamir Khan, Suriya set to revive Ghajini as franchise with Ghajini 2
Indian actors Aamir Khan and Suriya are poised to breathe new life into their hit film Ghajini by developing it into a franchise, according to reports.
Both stars are enthusiastic about the concept of Ghajini 2 and have committed to working on the sequel simultaneously. The aim is to ensure that both the Hindi and Tamil versions reach their respective audiences on the same day.
Both actors have expressed a desire to avoid remaking the original and are focused on shooting Ghajini 2 together with a simultaneous release.
Suriya recently confirmed his interest in Ghajini 2 during the promotion of his latest film, Kanguva, Pinkvilla reported. He mentioned that producer Allu Aravind had come up with the sequel idea, which he found intriguing.
“It was surprising that you asked me about Ghajini 2 now. After a long time, Allu Aravind presented the idea for a sequel and inquired if it was feasible. I told him, ‘Definitely, sir, we can consider it.’ Yes, discussions have begun, and things are in motion. Ghajini 2 might just happen.”
A source close to the production has revealed that Aamir has been collaborating with producer Aravind for some time to develop Ghajini 2. Aamir is “eager to approach the film with a fresh script” rather than a remake of the original Tamil version.

“With the trend of pan-India releases, remakes of cult films featuring popular stars are becoming outdated. Both Suriya and Aamir Khan are thrilled about the idea of Ghajini 2, but they want to avoid the stigma of it being labelled a remake. They are concerned that if one version is released first, it could diminish the novelty of the other. In light of this, Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena proposed the solution of shooting both versions simultaneously and releasing them on the same day,” the report said.
The original Tamil Ghajini, featuring Suriya and Asin, was released in 2005 while Aamir’s adaptation became a major box office hit in 2008.
If plans proceed as expected, Ghajini 2 is set to have its framework established by mid-2025. Both Aamir Khan and Suriya have expressed their initial approval for the project, and the next steps hinge on finalising the script.
