A blast occurred at the Ordnance Factory in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday, 2024, injuring multiple employees and leaving one person missing.

The explosion took place while explosive waste was being disposed of using remote control, a routine procedure at the facility that produces munitions for the Indian Army.

According to officials, the blast was triggered by a malfunction in the hydraulic system during the bomb-filling process in building 200 of the factory’s F-6 section.

The explosion was so powerful that it shattered windows in nearby buildings and could be heard up to five kilometers away.

Witnesses described the incident as feeling like an earthquake, prompting many residents to evacuate their homes.

The injured employees were quickly transported to a private hospital for treatment, with some requiring stitches.

Rescue teams are currently on-site, searching for the missing individual who may be trapped under the debris.

The Ordnance Factory has been operational since 1943 and is one of the major ammunition production units under the Department of Defence Production in India.
