Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is set to leave for Dubai on Sunday (today) after the approval of constitutional amendments, with his flight scheduled for this evening, sources told Aaj News.

Bilawal’s trip to Dubai is “primarily to meet” his sister, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, and his nephews, Mir Haqeem and Mir Sajaawal.

It merits her mentioning that the PPP has summoned its parliamentary party meeting at 2pm today amid the party’s attempts to reach a consensus on the constitutional amendment draft.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would preside over the meeting at the Parliament House in Islamabad.

All members of the Senate and National Assembly from the PPP have been instructed to attend the session.

Bilawal would provide a briefing on the communications regarding the 26th constitutional amendment with the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the government. He would also update the members on discussions that took place during the cabinet meeting.

Described as the 26th constitutional amendment, the legislation aims to change the process of appointments of the chief justice of the Supreme Court.

A special parliamentary committee made a major breakthrough in the draft of the legislation as panel head Khursheed Shah announced that the committee has “unanimously” approved the draft.

Bilawal has been very active in getting everyone’s consensus on the constitutional amendment draft, saying that it is part of the “Charter of Democracy” his late mother Benazir Bhutto signed with political bigwigs.

Constitutional amendment bill not part of National Assembly agenda

On PTI’s request, JUI-F chief Fazl seeks one more day to vote on constitutional amendment

On Saturday, the scion of the Bhutto dynasty put the onus of constitutional amendment approval on PTI, saying that it was high time that Imran Khan’s party stood up to its name.

“The onus is on PTI… if you are serious in politics. Tehreek-e-Insaf is your [PTI] name not mine,” Bilawal told reporters after meeting JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad to discuss the legislation related to judicial reforms.

“You [PTI] should have brought judicial reforms and the bill. Two months have passed and PTI did not present a ‘single point’. The government is taunting me about delaying the passage of the constitutional amendments despite having enough numbers.”
