Committee approved same draft that we had reached consensus on with Fazl: Gohar
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has claimed that the constitutional amendment draft approved by the parliamentary special committee was the same that his party had reached a consensus on with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is nearing a consensus with the JUI-F,” he told reporters after meeting Fazl in Islamabad on Friday. He added that the party intends to present a draft to its founder, Imran Khan, for his approval.
Earlier in the day, the special parliamentary committee head Syed Khursheed Shah said that the panel has unanimously accepted the constitutional package draft.
The senior PPP leader said the draft was sent to the federal cabinet for approval. When asked about the package being presented in Parliament today, he said that would only happen after the cabinet passed it.
“Following Imran Khan’s request, we have been in discussions with Maulana Fazl,” Gohar stated to the media after a meeting with the JUI-F leader.
“We hoped to reach a consensus yesterday, and today we continued our discussions with Maulana Fazl to finalize that agreement,” he explained.
Gohar noted that while they were in the midst of negotiations, the special committee announced its consensus on the 26th constitutional amendment. He mentioned that they had received the fourth draft and that talks were ongoing.
The PTI chairman added that the party plans to request a meeting with Khan tomorrow (Saturday) to secure his approval on the final draft.
“We haven’t been allowed to meet Imran for the past two weeks,” Gohar stated, noting that PTI doctors have also been denied access to the imprisoned party leader.

“We will present our final version based on his feedback. We are nearly at a consensus with Maulana Fazl. Once we receive Imran Khan’s input tomorrow, we will finalize that draft,” Gohar concluded.
When asked if the PTI delegation had a meeting with the PPP chairman, Gohar said that they were sitting in a different room when Bilawal had a meeting with Fazl.
He added that the two sides greeted each other but there was no discussion on the constitutional amendment.
