Dr Aasim Yusuf, the personal physician of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, exited the Adiala Jail without examining him on Tuesday, sources within the jail told Aaj News.

He faced complications upon his arrival at the Adiala Jail where the PTI founder is serving his jail sentence.

Dr Aasim was unable to present his identification to the jail staff. The security personnel requested a card from the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centres, which he could not provide.

After this setback, the doctor exited the jail premises without notifying the staff of his departure. He had arrived at the jail specifically to conduct a medical examination of the PTI founder.

It merits here to mention that PTI called off its protest scheduled for Tuesday (today) after the government assured it of conducting a medical examination of Khan.

“The federal government has officially contacted us and assured us that doctors will be sent to Adiala Jail tomorrow morning while restoring Imran Khan’s access to doctors,” PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan said in a video statement on Monday night.

Gohar stated that he had sought time from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi after the latter assured him of the offer and placed it before the party’s political and apex committees.

“The PTI leadership and the political committee unanimously accepted it and given this postponed tomorrow’s protest.”

Last week, Imran Khan’s party announced its decision to protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on October 15—the day the country would host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in the federal capital—to seek the incarcerated former prime minister’s release.

The SCO, which includes India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, is a significant economic and security bloc that has become one of the largest trans-regional international organizations.

In addition to the high-profile leaders, around 900 delegations will be present in Islamabad for the event. Approximately 200 members of the international media, including representatives from Indian media outlets, are expected to cover the conference.
