A special court established under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) sentenced on Saturday a man from Rawalpindi’s Gujar Khan to death in a blasphemy case.

Judge Mohammad Afzal Majoka convicted the man, Qaiser Sajjad, under Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The court also imposed a life imprisonment sentence and a seven-year prison term under Section 11 of the PECA law. It has imposed a fine of Rs700,000 on the convict based on “various charges.”

Judge Majoka ordered the Adiala Jail superintendent to detain the convict.

The Federal Investigation Agency had registered a case against Sajjad, leading to the significant ruling.

This is second such ruling over the last 20 days. Last month, the abovementioned court sentenced a woman to death under PECA in a blasphemy case.

The federal government established regular courts in Islamabad for offences related to PECA, 2016.
