Information Minister Azma Bukhari has announced that the Punjab government has reduced transport fares in response to declining petrol and diesel prices.

The fare reductions range from Rs20 to Rs190, with the most significant cut occurring on the Lahore to Karachi route, where fares have been decreased by Rs190.

Other reductions include a Rs50 cut for travel from Lahore to Peshawar and a Rs20 reduction for Rawalpindi.

Bukhari highlighted that Punjab is the only province implementing fare reductions consistent with the drop in fuel prices.

Updated fare lists have been posted at bus stations throughout the province.

This marks the fifth consecutive fare reduction prompted by lower petrol prices, and the government has urged other provinces to follow Punjab’s example to ease travel costs for passengers.

The fare of AC bus from Lahore to Layyah reduced by Rs100, Lahore to Bahawalpur by Rs100, Lahore to Multan by Rs200, Lahore to Muzaffargarh by Rs250 and Lahore to Fort Abbas by Rs100.

Meanwhile, the fares from Lahore to Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta have been reduced by Rs200, Rs80, Rs100 and Rs200, respectively.

The announcement follows the government’s decision on September 30 to lower petroleum prices, providing some relief to the public. Petrol prices were reduced by Rs2.7 per liter, bringing the new rate to Rs247.03 per liter, while high-speed diesel prices fell by Rs3.40 per liter. Light diesel and kerosene oil prices were also decreased by Rs1.30 and Rs3.57 per liter, respectively.
