Cellular subscribers in Pakistan increase to 193.098m by August 2024, reports PTA

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reported the number of cellular subscribers in Pakistan rose from 192.924 million at the end of July 2024 to 193.098 million by the end of August 2024.

The data also indicated an increase in 3G and 4G users, which grew from 136.312 million at the end of July to 137.920 million by the end of August 2024. The penetration rate for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) rose from 56.15% to 56.72% during this period, while the cellular teledensity remained unchanged at 79% by the end of August.

For Jazz, the number of 3G users fell from 2.897 million at the end of July to 2.718 million by the end of August, whereas its 4G users increased from 47.993 million to 48.843 million. Similarly, Zong saw a decrease in 3G subscribers from 1.955 million to 1.932 million, but its 4G users grew from 37.153 million to 37.627 million during the same timeframe.

Telenor’s 3G subscribers declined from 1.551 million at the end of July to 1.519 million by the end of August, while its 4G users increased from 24.929 million to 25.189 million during the same period.

Ufone reported 3G users at 2.167 million by the end of August, down from 2.197 million at the end of July. However, its 4G user count grew from 15.975 million to 16.243 million.

In August 2024, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) received 19,223 complaints from telecom consumers regarding various operators, with 19,061 (99%) of these complaints resolved.

The complaints were directed at multiple telecom providers, including cellular mobile operators (CMOs), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), long-distance international (LDI) operators, wireless local loop (WLL) operators, and internet service providers (ISPs). Since cellular mobile subscribers make up a significant portion of the overall telecom user base, most complaints were related to this segment. By the end of August, there were 18,546 complaints against CMOs, with 18,407 (99%) being addressed.

According to PTA data, Jazz received 7,460 complaints, with 7,449 (99.9%) resolved. Telenor had 3,853 complaints, of which 3,816 (99%) were addressed. Zong registered 4,851 complaints, with 4,826 (99.5%) resolved. Ufone faced 2,352 complaints, and 2,286 (97.2%) of these were addressed.

Additionally, the PTA recorded 163 complaints related to basic telephony, resolving 162 for a resolution rate of 98.2%. There were also 502 complaints against internet service providers (ISPs), with 482 (96%) being addressed.
