Met Office forecasts heavy rain across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rain with thunder and lightning across the country today, while light to moderate rain is expected in Karachi.

Karachi

The PMD predicts light to moderate rain in Karachi, the capital of Sindh.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz stated that only light to moderate rain is likely in Karachi today, though heavier rain could occur in the surrounding areas. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 34 degrees Celsius.

According to Sarfaraz, the weather in Karachi is expected to remain warm in the coming days. There is typically a one-degree increase in temperature during September, with the average temperature for the month being 33.5 degrees Celsius.

Islamabad

According to the PMD, the weather in Islamabad and its surroundings will be hot and dry, with partly cloudy skies. There may be strong winds and rain accompanied by thunder in the afternoon.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Most districts in KP are expected to experience hot and dry weather. However, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thunder in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Battagram, Kohistan, Swat, and nearby areas.

Punjab

The weather in most districts of Punjab is likely to remain hot and dry. However, rain with strong winds and thunder is possible in Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Toba Tek Singh, Multan, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Kot Addu, and Rahim Yar Khan.

Balochistan

Most districts in Balochistan are expected to experience hot and dry weather. However, there may be rain with strong winds and thunder in some areas, including Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Loralai, Kohlu, Sibi, Nasirabad, Jhal Magsi, Qalat, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, and Kech, with some places potentially experiencing heavy rainfall.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released details regarding the damage caused by the rains in Balochistan. According to the PDMA, 39 people lost their lives in various incidents during the rains, over 900 houses were destroyed, and 7 bridges along with 47 kilometers of roads suffered damage.

Sindh

The weather in most districts of Sindh is expected to be partly cloudy. However, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thunder in Ghotki, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Dadu, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Khairpur, Umerkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, and nearby areas.

In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather will also be partly cloudy, with the possibility of rain accompanied by thunder in some locations.

According to a spokesperson for the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in seasonal streams and nullahs. In the past 24 hours, heavy rain has been recorded in Lahore and other northeastern and southern areas of Punjab.
