Under a powerful monsoon system, thunderstorms are expected in Karachi, with maximum temperatures forecasted to reach 30 degrees Celsius, while the current temperature is around 27 degrees Celsius.

The PMD reported northeast winds blowing at 19 kilometers per hour and humidity at 83%.

The Air Quality Index indicated Karachi is 67th among the world’s most polluted cities and fifth in Pakistan, with particulate matter levels recorded at 55.

In addition, heavy rainfall is expected in various cities of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, and Sanghar, until August 31.

Reports indicated that areas in Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpur Khas will likely experience heavy rain during this period.

Furthermore, from August 30 to September 1, different districts in Balochistan are forecasted to receive rainfall, with heavy rain anticipated in Hub, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, and Gwadar until September 1.

The Sindh government has announced the closure of all private and public schools in Karachi today due to the risk of a cyclone along Sindh’s coastal strip.

Ban on Swimming in Karachi’s Coastal Areas

Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has imposed a ban on swimming, diving, and other water activities in the coastal areas.

A notification was issued, stating that these activities are prohibited due to safety concerns. Additionally, under Section 144, fishing activities in the sea are also restricted until August 31.

In light of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted heavy rainfall, both public and private schools in Karachi will remain closed today. The Commissioner noted that this decision was made after consultations with the Meteorological Department and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

Second Alert for Tropical Cyclone Issued

The PMD has issued a second alert regarding a tropical cyclone, noting that a deep depression is located in the Runoff and adjacent areas.

According to the department, this system is moving slowly westward and southwestward, with little forward movement in the past 12 hours.

The system is approximately 250 kilometers east and southeast of Karachi and is expected to continue movement in the same direction.

It may enter the northeastern Arabian Sea by tomorrow morning, bringing severe flooding to the sea, with wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, and gusts potentially hitting 70 kilometers per hour.

The PMD has advised fishermen in Sindh not to venture into deep waters until August 31, while fishermen in Balochistan are prohibited from going deep water until September 1.
